with the changes in doctrine being fully unveiled at the dc this year, i expected many to wake up.
the dcs have been going on for a month now, i fully expected to be welcoming new members by now!
am i just being impatient?

i heard from a reliable source that governing body member david splane will be giving a talk in calgary where all the flooding was last week.
Well we know it won't be at the saddledome, that's for sure!
ok i started another thread and every one jumped on me because i was trying to take the theory of evolution out of the mix and most here seem to believe in it so i will just say it.
the theory of major evolution is crap!
the theory is falling apart.
Wow... Spent a long time typing a nice post, page reloads... GONE. Thanks iPad.
Basically what I was saying was that decades in the WT have given you a distrust for science and medicine. Just asserting that scientists are lying does nothing to argue their points. In fact attacking them ad hominem shows you have no proper defence. The scientific community has a sort of immune system for this type of thing. If a known respected scientist were to be caught lying in his findings, his career would be over. When someone makes a new discovery, all of their work is challenged and peer reviewed before a paper can even be published publicly. Every idea in science is up for grabs, that's what drives them forward.
Nobody is expecting you to read on e book and drop your beliefs that you held dear for decades. Throughout this whole thread including the title and OP you have shown your ignorance. And the board hasn't been nice to you because of your arrogance. Obviously you were so confident that you we right that you felt justified in making such an absurd claim.
You don't feel that way anymore, do you. Every one of your arguments has been dismantled several times over. That's enough to make a guy stop and reconsider his position. Your position is that you don't understand the very things you say are crap! Make sense? Don't say you do understand, you have shown that you are clueless. Having recently woken up that is understandable, but only for so long. And only as long as you aren't being all arrogant in your ignorance. Read the books, at least you will understand the basics and ins and outs of this "crap" theory.
BTW, my offer still stands.
i haven't had my dc yet and after reading about what's being said on saturday i was thinking about not going in protest as they are not being christ like.
will this be a good technique for my kids or should i go and endure the crap and then say a few things to my children while they're listening to this garbage?.
Good thing for you, there doesn't seem to be a limit on how many threads one poster can start in a day!
How would your protest go over with th family? Plus, how can you explain your knowledge of the content without admitting that you got it from this apostate site? Some things to consider.

You mentioned light, colours, etc. physics. These don't belong in a thread about evolution. The Big Bang is another separate theory, as is abiogenesis. These must be considered on their own and each would take a thread of its own. Evolution doesn't explain how life started, just how it got to where it is now since then. Some like to place god in there right at the beginning... Problem is, are you really willing to reduce god's hand in things to just creating the first cell? Doubt it.
All of these theories have one thing in common.. They all happen without the need for an outside influence. The Big Bang and the formation of the universe is driven by gravity, a theory which I'm quite certain you aren't willing to try to disprove. The Big Bang was discovered by a catholic priest, Georges LemaƮtre . He discovered that the universe was expanding, something Einstein himself found impossible to believe at the time. A look at the timeline of an expanding universe in reverse leads to only one conclusion. One single event. Bang. LemaƮtre saw no issue with this discovery and his faith. He was later promoted to Cardinal in the RCC.
Abiogenesis, well.. I not knowledgeable enough to talk about that. Just because its been difficult to replicate in a lab over a short period of time doesn't render it disproven. Even if it were, it would still have no effect on Darwin's theory. These things are what you need to understand first. Go ahead and read The Magic of Reality. It's written at a school-age reading level, and explains clearly how we know what we know, how to follow facts to truth, etc. Then goes into the basics of evolution. From there feel free to grab another book on evolution if you still feel like it.
As far as me reading Darwin's Doubt is concerned, I am curious to see if it brings out any new arguments that haven't already been disproven. Unfortunately my "to read" list is HUGE at the moment. I have ten unfinished books in my Audible library, and rarely take the time to sit and read a whole paper book. I usually crush audiobooks, just been falling behind.
I'll make you a deal, CrazyGuy. Only because I like you, and want you to educate yourself as many of us have. You are intelligent, for sure.
If you read The Magic of Reality and The Blind Watchmaker then come on this forum and post a review, I will do the same with Darwin's Doubt. It'll slide to the top of my "to read" list. The Blind Watchmaker has become a tad outdated in some parts, but the newer versions address this.
So what do you say, do we have a deal?
if you want to read the definitive explanation on fossils and how life arrived its covered in darwins doubt, by s.c. meyer.
this is a game changer.
the bomb!.
Sounds like a sweet ride! Lol
Open up your fuse panel, see if those things you mentioned share a fuse. The lights might, but lighters usually have their own fuse and circuit. Pull out the fuse in question and make sure it's not corroded and the terminals that it slides into a clean and good.
Do you hear a clicking noise when the lights are flickering? If so it may be a loose or faulty relay.
BTW, way to derail a good thread! Sorry OP
i'm thinking of sharing some ttatt with my kids especially the older two 12 and 14, but not sure what to say or what parts of ttatt to share.
i think all of it would be to much so would like some ideas that may help get into their heads, please..
i was told that before 2007 there were a couple of gb's that did not partake and that after the 2007 change now they all partake, is this true??
?.
"Partaking" is the quickest, easiest way to get promoted in the WT org! Your mental health will come into question, but not to your face. The BOE is too afraid to openly question a persons decision to partake.
Instant COBE, with opportunities for quick advancement.
You may be thinking of back in Rutherford's early days, one of his good ol' boys in the club was not a partaker. Some wrote in asking "how can this be?" So the guy was moved to a different position.

How about researching with them the physics needed to create a global flood? Not trolling, serious. The WT still teaches the flood story as fact. They even still teach the water canopy thing as fact! Like shooting fish in a barrel.
I know you want to 'lead them to Christ' or whatever.. So *christian hat on* how about asking them about how they truly feel about all of the obligations involved with being a JW? You could share that you find it a drag sometimes. You could contrast the "gotta get to all the meetings and out in service enough so that god might not kill us" attitude in Jw land. Ask if they feel they have to earn their salvation? Then contrast that with Romans and Ephesians where Paul makes a generous effort to explain that the ransom was sufficient, nothing could be added to it. Nothing they can do can have an effect on whether they benefit from the ransom, whatever that means to you. When was leaving that was a big help. *christian hat off*
Are they involved in any extra curriculars? Would they like to be? Playing sports or something can be a good distraction. Plus the added benefits of more non-Dub friends and some missed meetings for games and practice. If you just drop the bomb on them they might feel lost without something else to focus on.
Your kids will be able to sense the changes in you immediately. Make sure they like the changes they see in dad, be cool dad. Even though you're a Fundie lol

It only seems that way to you, the believer. You don't know there are holes, you have been taught by creationist pseudo scientists that there are. They make an assertion, then claim it is an issue with the theory. You have cited such examples on this thread. Then there are claims like the claim that the fossil record shows no intermediate species... False. But if it we asserted by such a pseudo scientist in your book, you would likely accept it without really finding out the truth because it confirms your bias. Does that make sense?
I appreciate your sticking it out with your thread. A thread with a title like this one HAD to go on. You can't make a statement like that, make silly assertions in your OP, ignore responses and then expect it wouldn't go to 12 pages and counting.
You say there are so many holes... How much information do you want? The truth is, the MOUNTAIN of direct evidence to support Darwin's theory of Natural Selection is truly staggering. A small honest consideration of it was enough to convert me, and several million others. Research on the subject is not done usually with the goal of letting go of god. Personally, that was the hardest part.
After realizing that I was lied to my whole life I tried hard to stick to Christianity. Unfortunately the deeper I looked into the bible, the larger my list of questions and doubts grew. I had always been taught the WT's view on evolution. After reading those WT books again with an open mind, referencing their quote mined articles I decided it was time for a deeper look into natural history. I reasoned that if they had to lie outright to make a case against the theory, I'd better take a deeper look. The only thing holding me to a belief in Christianity was a personal obligation to my creator for creating me.
I asked myself a question that everyone would do well to mask themselves; how much information does a person have to overlook, in hopes of supporting evidence coming to light before he becomes an ignorant fool? Am I an ignorant fool? Surely I can't be. I know I don't want to be. I picked up The Blind Watchmaker with a skeptical view. I held many of the reservations you do, albeit less detailed. I wanted a fuller explanation of what evolution is, how it works and what is some of the evidence for it. Surely if it were so obviously a farce as I had been taught it was, 98% of the world's leading scientists were also wrong. Those are odds I wouldn't play against.
I'm going to go check out your TATT thread now, it has serious potential. I hope I haven't offended you with any of my responses to this or your other thread. I forget sometimes that not that long ago it could have been me saying those things you have said.
